The national leader of the Uhuru Torch Relay, Mr. Ismail Ali Ussi, has praised the government’s dedication to enhancing the healthcare system, highlighting notable progress made under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s guidance.
Mr. Ussi made these comments recently during the official inauguration of the Ilazo Health Centre in Ipagala Ward, located in Dodoma.
He observed that the government has been putting in remarkable efforts to enhance the well-being of its citizens, stating: "The Uhuru Torch went through this site last year and initiated construction... it’s exciting that we are now opening its complete operations today."
Mr. Ussi highlighted the significance of public backing in propelling governmental development plans, emphasizing that robust oversight and administration of these endeavors are vital for enduring national advancement.
At the event, Dodoma City Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pima Sebastian, stated that the development and outfitting of the healthcare center had incurred an expense of 3.2 billion/-.
He mentioned that the facility, which has 48 employees, will cater to over 90,000 inhabitants and was constructed using funds provided by KOICA and UNICEF; additionally, the City Council contributed an amount of 1.5 billion units of currency.
Dodoma Urban Member of Parliament and Minister for Minerals, Mr Antony Mavunde said the facility will significantly boost healthcare services for residents of Ipagala, Nzuguni, and neighbouring areas.
Meanwhile, Mr Ussi also laid a foundation stone for a 1.6-kilometre tarmac road project linking Singida Road to the Dodoma City Hospital.
A different project reviewed was the Clean Cooking Energy Initiative at Santhome Secondary School within Nala Ward. Here, Mr. Ussi commended the institution for embracing clean energy options, aligning with governmental initiatives aimed at advocating secure and eco-friendly power consumption methods.
"He emphasized that President Samia is dedicated to encouraging Tanzanians to adopt clean and safe cooking fuels." He also referred to her as Africa’s leading advocate for clean energy projects.
Mr. Mavunde stated that Dodoma Region has provided 3,500 gas stoves to encourage the use of cleaner cooking methods. This initiative has led to 60 percent of food vendors, known as mama lishe, switching from conventional fuel sources to gas.
