By Anthony Adongo Apubeo

Zebilla (U/E), May 22, GNA – In support of child rights, World Vision Ghana has provided four adjustable and electric-powered delivery beds to healthcare centers within the Bawku West District located in the Upper East Region.

The contribution was geared towards improving the standard of maternal and child healthcare services and making births safer within medical centers throughout the district, particularly focusing on areas that are difficult to access.

The assistance, supported by World Vision’s U.S.-based partners, was provided to Yelwoko Health Centre as well as Tarikom, Komaka, and Kobongo Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) facilities.

During a short ceremony at Zebilla where the beds were presented to the benefiting healthcare centers, Mr. Rexford Yamdorg Bugre, the Regional Operations Manager for the Northern Sector of World Vision Ghana, reiterated his organization's dedication to enhancing health outcomes in remote areas, with particular focus on mothers and children.

He admitted that the conflict in Bawku was particularly challenging for expectant mothers trying to get medical care. Additionally, the arrival of refugees from the Sahel region was straining the limited healthcare resources in the area.

He believed that this action would significantly help enhance healthcare, specifically focusing on maternal and child health through supporting safer childbirths.

Mr. Joseph Edwin Yelkabong, who serves as the Bawku West Cluster Area Programme Manager at World Vision Ghana, mentioned that their assistance was prompted by visits to healthcare centers which highlighted an immediate requirement for support, particularly concerning maternal health services.

"We have collaborated with the Ghana Health Service to pinpoint healthcare facilities that will benefit from these resources. We are confident that enhancing medical care within local communities will positively impact district and regional performance," he stated.

He restated World Vision Ghana's dedication to continuing their support for initiatives that could enhance the health and education of children.

Mr. Cosmos Minyila, the Bawku West District Director of the Ghana Health Service, who was presented with the beds, conveyed his profound appreciation for this act of kindness. He emphasized that these new delivery beds will significantly alleviate the strain on overburdened maternity wards and enhance both the comfort and security of women giving birth.

"These beds serve as a crucial update. Given the rising number of births at our facilities, having access to adjustable and electric delivery beds will greatly enhance the work environment for our midwives and provide better experiences for expecting mothers," said the director.

He mentioned that the flexible design of these beds along with their electric functionalities make them well-suited for managing different childbirth situations and improves the ability of healthcare providers to address labor complications efficiently.

"In 2024, we documented two cases of maternal mortality; however, so far this year, we haven’t noted any such incidents. We are hopeful that this trend continues, and these beds will significantly aid our efforts," he stated.

Mr. James Ayamwego, the District Chief Executive of Bawku, commended the donation and emphasized that this assistance would enhance healthcare services in the region, with a particular focus on improving maternal and child health.

He highlighted the significant impact of World Vision Ghana’s efforts throughout the years in implementing crucial development programs within the Bawku West District, such as water supply and hygiene initiatives, child safeguarding measures, and educational advancements. He also emphasized the importance of sustaining cooperation between non-governmental organizations and governmental bodies to further promote progress.
