Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng: A Life Unfaded

The well-known journalist and media instructor Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng is said to have passed away following a prolonged illness at the age of 74.

A dear friend and associate, Professor Kwame Karikari, verified his passing to MyJoyOnline. He mentioned that the deceased individual expired on Monday, May 26 in London, where he had been receiving medical care since February of this year, 2025.

Nana Gnan-Apenteng, a former editor and columnist for The Mirror weekly newspaper, served as the Apagyahene of Tafo Eti in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Additionally, he held the position of Deputy Editor at the once London-based West Africa magazine during the late 1980s and early 1990s before his passing.

In the 1990s, upon his return to Ghana, Mr. Gyan-Apenteng served at the Third World Network as the leader of their communications department and took charge as the editor for their monthly publication, Africa Agenda.

He graduated from Apam Secondary School, Okuapeman Secondary School, and the University of Ghana,Legon. He worked as a communications consultant for various organizations such as MTN, certain United Nations entities, the Media Foundation for West Africa, and STAR Ghana, amongst others.

From 2013 to 2018, he held positions as both a member and chairperson of the National Media Commission. Additionally, he served as the president of the Ghana Association of Writers.

Nana Kwesi Gyan Apenteng left behind six children.
