Tarkwa, May 30, GNA - The Tarkwa May Legends, a group comprising individuals born in May who live in Tarkwa and nearby areas, have contributed medical supplies valued at GH₵45,000 to four CHPS compounds. This donation aims to enhance healthcare services within these communities.

The items include an 18-liter autoclave equipped with a timer, a BMI scale along with a measuring rod for height, a baby weighing scale, a nebulizer machine, a pulse oximeter, a digital thermometer, and a privacy screen consisting of four panels.

The beneficiary CHPS facilities include Bonsa, Brahabebome, Akoon, and Bonsawire, all located within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

At the unveiling ceremony held at the healthcare facility’s location, Ms. Legend Mrs. Mary Addison-Fynn, who serves as the Chairperson, mentioned that during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak, numerous individuals experienced feelings of isolation, which spurred their desire to create a beneficial influence.

She observed that once they shared their concept, additional individuals joined in, causing their team to solidify in 2021.

The chairperson stated, “Although other teams concentrated on various fields, we opted for health since we understand that when our community thrives with wellness, everybody gains from it. This is precisely why we are committed to advancing healthcare projects.”

Moreover, Dame Mrs Addison-Fynn stated: "In order to improve access, we plan to install signage for all the CHIPS compounds in this region since we faced difficulties even when trying to locate the Bonsa CHPS compound."

Additionally, next year, we aim to make considerable progress by building a facility dedicated to one of the CHIPS compounds.

Legend Madam Ivy Ama Arthur, Secretary, stated that the Tarkwa May Legends is an organization comprising people born in May who live in Tarkwa and nearby regions. They gather every year to contribute donations and lend support to their community.

In 2021, she remembered that they organized an educational event about neonatal jaundice at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital aimed at equipping mothers with the necessary information to manage these circumstances effectively.

In the subsequent year, the team acquired a firefly device for the same location to assist with treating neonatal jaundice in infants admitted from the surrounding regions.

Moreover, the secretary mentioned that since midwives were honored during May, they chose to back these professionals at the Apinto Government Hospital Maternity unit in their third year by easing their workload as they cared for their families, friends, and communities.

"This year, we've directed our efforts straight into the communities since we recognized that with adequate resources, we can avoid needless fatalities and enhance general welfare," stated Legend Madam Arthur.

The secretary also mentioned, "Various forms of mining activities in Tarkwa, such as unauthorized mining, contribute to numerous health problems among the residents."

"We are delighted to contribute positively, even in the smallest ways, towards ensuring the safety and well-being of our community," she stated.

Upon receiving the items, Mrs Wilhelmina Tiwaah Duah Morttey, the Municipal Director of Health Services in Tarkwa Nsuaem, expressed her enthusiasm for the donation and praised the donors for their support.

She stated: "Providing an autoclave and baby-friendly scales alongside adult ones would significantly improve our medical facilities. During emergencies such as asthma attacks, the nebulizer you've contributed will allow us to administer essential treatment and help stabilize patients."

Mrs. Morttey guaranteed that the equipment would receive proper maintenance and would furthermore be utilized effectively to enhance healthcare results for the inhabitants of the four communities and further afield.
