Akin Ibitoye, an expert, has detailed why sleeping with a mobile device under your pillow or next to your bed can be detrimental.
Ibitoye, the technology advisor from TMB Tech, stated during his appearance on the Morning Brief show on Channels Television on Monday, "Avoid placing your device under your pillow when sleeping. Doing so can impact you negatively without your awareness."
Adding, he said, “These gadgets disrupt our circadian rhythm. That’s how, when it’s dark, your body gets the signal it needs to sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, there are quite a number of things that even the medical practitioners have said could result negatively back to your body.”
He likewise pointed out "doomscrolling" as a risk associated with unrestricted use of mobile devices. Doomscrolling refers to the tendency of dedicating hours to browsing through endless negative news online, initially intended to be just a brief look-up.
He stated, "In the days before mobile phones, we relied on alarm clocks. These devices would ring precisely at the designated time."
The specialist mourned that smartphones bring unwanted disruptions at night through pop-ups and vibrations.
"Unless it's completely essential for your job, you can manage without your phone," he stated.
Speaking on other hazards of using mobile phones, he said, “These batteries, lithium-ion batteries, you notice they don’t allow them on airplanes for good reasons. This tiny marvel of technology can explode anytime. If you keep your phone under your pillow, your phone actually gets heated up.”
“These electromagnetic devices being so close, actually affect the electrical signals in our brain,” he added.
Ibitoye stated, "If turning it completely off isn’t an option for you, use airplane mode instead. In this way, no calls will interrupt you, nor will you receive any texts or notifications; however, your alarms will continue to function."
