Bolgatanga, June 3, GNA – Demonstrating an act of kindness and strong sense of community, UMABO (Union of MayBornS) has gifted hygienic products to 69 infants born in May at four healthcare facilities within the Upper East Region.

The benefiting hospitals were the Upper East Regional Hospital located in Bolgatanga, Bongo District Hospital, Zebilla District Hospital, as well as Amiah Hospital.

The contribution was a component of the Union’s yearly charitable program focused on honoring life and contributing to societal well-being throughout the month of May.

The donations comprised infant diapers, bar soaps, talcum powders, and various crucial hygienic supplies, which were then handed out to new mothers to promote the health and welfare of their newborns.

Ms Joyceline Adoosey Abiire, the Global Vice President of the Union, mentioned that this act was meant to convey appreciation and spread happiness among those born in May, particularly new babies and their families.

"We have been engaged in this activity for several years, and we feel that contributing to society is a way to show our appreciation to God for the life he has bestowed upon us," she stated.

She highlighted the crucial role of instilling proper hygiene habits right from birth to minimize infections and support the healthy development of infants.

The health authorities at the recipient hospitals praised the Union of May Borns for their generous contribution, emphasizing that these kind gestures significantly aid mothers, particularly those in underprivileged areas.

The mothers were equally delighted with this act of kindness and emphasized that they would utilize it effectively to keep their infants secure.

The Union aims to broaden this initiative to include additional hospitals over the next few years, continuing its dedication to improving lives and fostering stronger community connections.

Founded in 2011, UMABO consists of people born in May who chose to come together and engage in various social initiatives every May.

Currently boasting a total membership of 182, The Union operates under a Constitution that requires every member to pay their dues and support annual humanitarian efforts.

In 2021, an amendment to the Constitution mandated that the Union concentrate on participating in community activities like blood drives, donating hygiene products for newborns every May 31st, and organizing cleanup efforts.

The organization additionally arranges entertaining activities with various societal groups to foster social bonding and strengthen unity.

Every undertaking of the Union has been funded through voluntary contributions from its members.
