On social media, the news of the new tool has sparked controversy with some claiming it is 'over for short men'.
Although numerous individuals have welcomed the ability to sort by height, Professor Stulp concurs that doing so will 'intensify the notion that stature plays a crucial role in selecting a mating partner,' which consequently 'will influence pairing trends.'
Professor Stulp states: "On Tinder, you have access to an unlimited number of potential matches, but you must narrow down your selection criteria using heuristic strategies."
'Such characteristics as height and age are straightforward to limit due to their quantifiable nature. However, imposing similar constraints based on factors like humor proves challenging.'
This also applies to speed dating situations, as Dr. Stulp’s previous studies were conducted, wherein individuals must make their decisions within a constrained timeframe.
"Indeed, in these environments, physical attributes may still take precedence, despite the fact that each candidate believes qualities like humor, intelligence, ambition, wit, and creativity are more crucial in a mate," explains Professor Stulp.
Research conducted by scientists at the University of Amsterdam and released this year revealed that even a slight enhancement in one’s appearance could increase the likelihood of their dating app profiles being swiped right by approximately 20 percent.
A rise in intelligence of similar proportion, as indicated by an IQ test score shown in the profile, led to just a 2% improvement in swipe success rate.

'Since men tend to be significantly taller than women, being tall is often considered more of a "masculine characteristic," whereas being short is frequently viewed as more of a "feminine characteristic."'
